How would you like to get some valuable tips on gardening as you are ready to start on your own? Try the internet, gardening clubs, books, magazines and do not forget to talk to your local nursery. You need to know how much sunlight your garden would get, tips on using fertilizers, mulch and type of soil. You would also want to know the types of tools you need along with the kind of tiller and watering system that are required.

Tip #1: Take a piece of paper and start writing down your plan on how you want your garden to be. Take the help of a friend if needed. First make sure how you want your garden to look.
Gardening Tip #2: The garden is a success if the soil is prepared well. Different types of plants prefer different types of soil so make sure you take that into consideration. Using organic fertilizers for vegetables and herbs is a must, if you wish to retain the natural flavor of the food. Try to replace ordinary fertilizers with good compost or even wooden chip mulch.
If you think that having a compost heap at your backyard is a near-impossible idea, think again. Fresh home brew compost is an excellent source of nutrients for your vegetarian or herb garden but sometimes it’s totally unrealistic. Softer woods like redwood or pine make good mulch as it breaks faster and it is a good substitute to home compost mixture. Mulch, compost or fertilizer, ensure that they are all mixed well.
Gardening Tip #3: Once the soil is ready, instead of planting the plants, simply lay them on the top of the soil, to have a final look at what your garden would look like, in case you want to make any last minute changes. At least that is what I feel. For example, any plant with a large girth should be clubbed with other plants with similar characteristics. Then, if you arrange the plants in such a way that the taller ones are at the back with the shorter ones in front, then you can see all the plants together.
Gardening Tip 4: Watering your garden is very important. Keeping up with it can be a big job depending on how big your house is. I recommend using an automatic watering system, as then the garden can grow on its own. Starting from a big sprinkling system to a timer tied to a hose – the automatic watering system has it all. Gardening is a rewarding hobby, which not only provides shade, beauty and sometimes food also!
